This week I've concentrated on experimenting with textures. Some were successful others not so much I'm trying to get a nice fabric effect so I can apply it like this. I'm getting these results using watered down ink and a sponge, wet sponge, dry sponge flannel and toilet roll. In the picture above the ink bled outside of the intended area so I've been trying different ways to contain it in the intended area. I'd used masking tape on the picture above and thought I'd just need to make double sure all the bubbles had been squeezed out but it still leaks so masking tapes ruled out. I tried vinyl but that was even less reliable. Masking fluids faffy, I haven't sussed how to use the stuff properly yet. Dunno if its the tool I'm using to apply it? It doesn't leak but I struggle to get precise curves with it + its hard to see where I've already applied it and when I go over the top of it it gets snotty. I expect it'll be of more use on larger scale works rather than something so intricate. I tried blu tack and again the ink doesn't leek beyond the boundaries but nor can I get the curves as accurate as what I was able to when cutting the masking tape. I've found the best thing to use is this tape you can write on. I don't know what its called but it does the trick. I can get accurate curves, it doesn't leak and it doesn't graze the paper when taking it off. So now I just need to see what textures work. I like this one^^ cause it looks pretty Japanesey. Most of the successful ones have been using toilet roll. So now I know how to maintain the ink anyway and I've a better idea what sort if effect to go for and how to get it I'm gonna try different textured toilet paper and kitchen roll. Kitten roll being tougher I imagine the pattern will show more prominent. At this stage I'm aware that I could potentially use any of the images above as for the texture. I could cut them out any shape I want o Photoshop or Illustrator and paste them on to of a lizard.. Could do all the assets individually and do the final layout in photoshop so then it would be more of a digital piece. Not sure. Could do both so I can weigh up the pro's and con's. I'm more inclined to do it traditionally and just roll with the imperfections cause it'll look more authentic. Heres what I'm thinking for the interior. I think the wall paper might look better as a negative. But yea I'm pretty much ready to dive in and begin the layout. Just need some old furniture reference imagery.
