The curtains stand out too much and are out of place. Using wet medium has added a grey scale element to the picture which doesn't fit with the monochrome. I loved how it was shaping n up regret not sticking to what I know works. The two complex patterns don't work side by side either, just looks cluttered. Anyway in future as with previous works, I should just adapt to how the piece shapes up rather than forcefully sticking to my guns. Bearing in mind this will probably be altered digitally to deliver it monochrome, I'll continue from this point to balance out the grey scale in the composition. There are a few ways I could fuck this up more. since the curtains are directing the flow to the higher mid range I could incorporate wet media to the pictures. Or/and the vase. Maybe the cloche the frogs wearing or/ the cushion she's lying on. I'd consider adding a water based texture to the bottom right of the pic to balance it off but. that areas already designated to th...

I've done the wall paper and since my hand needs a rest, thought I'd get around to doing the water based textures. I'd previously tried out textures on this paper but not how to maintain them as some ideally needs to stay within strict borders so not to seep into the lizards tongue etc. Bearing in mind the magic tape proved unsuitable I wanted to do the curtain like kinda like this but a lighter tone so tested to see how the adhesive border roll would work on this paper. on the left side, it was applied pressed down hard and stripped off so that's like the worse case scenario where as the right side it hadn't been pressed quite so hard and taken off carefully.. though I'm not 100% sure if its wasn't pressed down firmly, how well it would abide by the pattern within the adhesive? Ultimately the adhesive will be in minimal contact with any line work, probably mostly around the vase. Masking fluid is far from ideal with this paper So masking tape doen't...

Since applying the wall paper I'm finding the pattern is so intricate it's become more prominent and takes the focus away from the foreground I don't imagine it's gonna prove too much of an issue. The carpet will balance out the contrast.. But I don't want the reptiles to become the secondary element. I'm just gonna have to see how it develops from here guide it the best I can. I was also worried that the adjoining where the two walls meet was becoming confused so I've made it slightly more pronounced buy highlighting the separating line though it's hard to make out here. I'm happy with the progress, defo slow but I'm on track with my timeline. I've still another 16 days to complete this. Just I'll have to knock up my sketchbook aswell. I'm still planning to add the water based textures to the curtains, cushion and now the vase as this will even out this texture in the overall composition like each couple will be next to a water b...

Right so this is where I'm at. Progression has been so slow:/ First off that magic tape I was gonna use is out the window when I take it off it takes off the ink. Was thinking I could maybe I could just redo the outline afterwards but. sometimes going over ruptured parts of the paper results inaccurate line, though its not always as noticeable but why risk it. Like was gonna tape over the tongue and chin here but Gonna try again with masking fluid, should be cush, obviously do tests first. Pencilled in the curls on the clock but theres some shabby line n needs tightening up. Parallel curves was a struggle free hand so thought to us a coin, smaller the better + a ruler

I've pencilled in bricks on the fire place and drew the box on the mantelpiece. It has like an Egyptian eye on it with a key hole instead of a pupil. I've also thought since this area of the picture is shaping up quite intricate, to add a little bit detail to the oval picture frames. Keeping with the reptile theme I was thinking a snake eating its tail Something like this, but just the head. Also two concerns regarding the composition. 1, the bottom right corner has nothing going on in it. At first it seemed obvious to add the shape of the window here where the light is hitting the carpet like on a previous draft but then as the carpet is going to be pointillism and areas of the pattern will be bare + Ill have to include the silhouette of the top of the cat, unless I went in heavy with the pointillism, I imagine this area would appear confused. 2, the material textures are both set to be applied to the left of the picture. It'll become more obvious whether this is an iss...

One thing that's slowly dawned on me as it comes closer to applying the ink is the water-based textures. In my experiments some were effective, some were duds but it was only a matter of chance if they turned out looking good. I've been doing further experiments with the curtains in mind and I'm liking the results, I am also learning to control the outcome better. I'm also pretty much ready to do the wall paper. I've tried different patterns but like this one best, though the details not very visible through the cotton paper so I altered the colour and contrast in photo editor before putting it into photoshop Then it was just a case of aligning the pattern inverted it so I could test out which was gonna work best. The original one works best, it's darker overall and as the pointillism on the carpet will be fairly light and I want the piece to piece to have a lot of contrast I'm gonna go for the darker one. This could make the balance a bit more top heav...

Today I've been adding assets to the room and going over the lizards again as I'm finding they are fading, I guess it's due to handling it as much. This is how I done the vase A concern that's resurfaced is how the perspective warp that will be applied to the wallpaper will work with the 2 point perspective? This is by far the slowest progressing piece I've ever done. I also added a crown, bracelets the a cat I've not done the tail in yet as this positioning will be dictated by the direction of the curtain. I'd been toying with the idea of including smoke to help direct the flow, but the more I analyse the picture, the more I feel this is unnecessary. So what's left? The fireplace, grill and bricks, something on the table like an incense burner, maybe more jewellery. Something on the centre of the fire place, was thinking a locked box with like an eye carved into it. Curls on the pillars of the grandfather clock and curtains and a moon. Plus since m...

Right then. So drawing the ornaments. Started off using the gargoyles as a reference. but nah wasn't digging them so thought maybe this chap could help I traced the mantelpiece onto some layer paper and pencilled in some boxes to help keep the dimensions right. As I'm working with this perspective, they should be facing slightly different ways, the closest one should be angled slightly more towards the viewer, the one on the left is pointing exactly the same way but you're looking at it from a slightly different angle. Once I achieved this I traced over them onto paper that was then put under the drawing of the room and traced.

Using the crowns on my mood board I've been seeing how the frog would look with a crown Trying out blinging them up with jewellery, bracelets, toe rings, necklaces and anklets. I've also been looking up reference imagery for further assets. I like this one but its probably too bulky to be squashed in beside the fireplace and behind the lizards feet. I like the pattern on this one. I'm thinking two identical fiendish ornaments either side of the mantle piece to add to the eerie feel. I like how the smoke is coming out on that last one. A black Ghibli-esc cat to make it more mystical, probably with its paw draping off the windowsill. This will also further tie the narrative or at least opens it up to further interpretation. And different styles of wall paper. . So now I'll design these assets then draw them onto layer paper to get the dimensions and perspective right, then they'll be traced into the room. Then the ink. After I've decided if/where any incens...
